Dinner and a Movie: THE IRISHMAN
Even though much of The Irishman takes place among the world of the Italian mafia, Robert DeNiro’s character brings the title Irish to the movie – so this week, we’re going Irish! Enjoy Chef Tootie Morrison’s Irish Soda Bread (perfect for a grilled cheese or other delicious sandwiches) and Mixologist Allison Hollis’ Irish Mule.

Chef Tootie’s Irish Soda Bread
Ingredients
4 cups all purpose flour (plus extra for sprinkling on a cutting board)
2 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1 3/4 cups buttermilk
Steps
In a large bowl, sift all dry ingredients together. Add buttermilk and stir only until combined.
On a cutting board or countertop, sprinkle extra flour then turn dough out of bowl into flour. Turn dough over so both sides have flour on them.
Knead dough. Flatten dough with the heel of your hand. Fold the dough over in half and continue kneading, more flour may be needed as you knead dough. Continue to knead dough until the texture has changed and the dough is smooth.
With both hands, shape dough into the shape of a football, take a knife and cut an X in the center of dough.
Place dough in a buttered pan or cast iron skillet and bake at 325 degrees for 35 minutes or until bread is golden brown and has risen.
Dough will be dense. Serve with butter. This bread is perfect for grilled cheese! Enjoy!
