Chef Tootie Morrison faced off against four other local chefs in the inaugural Louisiana Food Prize competition. The chefs had 40 minutes to create their dish with ingredients provided by Slow Food North Louisiana — ingredients they received at the start of the countdown. Celebrity guest judges selected Tootie's dish as their favorite, awarding her with the Golden Fork and $5,000 check.

Tickets to the 7th Annual North Louisiana Gay & Lesbian Film Festival go on sale Sept. 1. The festival, presented by PACE: People Acting for Change and Equality, will be held Sept. 18-24 at the film center. Highlights of this year's festival include three visiting directors, Robert L. Camina, Jillian Armenante and JC Calciano. The filmmakers will hold Director Q&A screenings as well as workshops as part of the Meet the Filmmakers Series, a new feature of the festival.

Students at our Comedy Camp perfected the art of the one-shot, meticulously planning their films to capture the action in long takes. We can't wait for you to see their work, along with the films from our other summer campers, at the Summer Film Camp Showcase on Aug. 15. RFC is partnering with Renzi Education & Art Center to premiere these student films with two free showtimes at 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Aug. 15.

We're excited about Me and Earl and the Dying Girl opening at RFC on July 10. The film, based on the New York Times best-selling novel by Jesse Andrews, took home both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
Critics' praise matches those honors, but we're most excited about Me and Earl and the Dying Girl because, as cinephiles here at RFC, we see a little bit of ourselves in movie lovers Greg and Earl. And we see their fierce creative passion on a weekly basis during the school year with our Teen Film Council members, who work hard to find their voice and express the importance of art in short films they showcase to the community. The Teen Film Council will host the 7:30 p.m. screening on July 11 with movie-themed prizes (click for tickets to this screening).
This movie is for audiences of all ages — teens and parents alike. Bring a group of four or more to this movie, and get your ticket with a small popcorn for just $10.

Campers at RFC's Stop Motion Animation Camp are having a great week making movies with Legos with Bricks 4 Kids. They've constructed sets out of Legos and used stop motion to animate each scene (see photos above). Campers will premiere their films to their family and friends on Friday, and we think that's pretty awesome.
On June 22, students in grades third through eighth kicked off RFC's first Summer Film Camp, Music Video Camp, in style with a little "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift. The students have had a great week making props, memorizing lines, working on their choreographed dance moves and learning how to use film equipment to make their very own music video. The Paranormals, the latest film from local filmmaker Evan Falbaum at Moviesauce will have it's "hometown" premiere at RFC on June 25 at 7:30 p.m. (click for tickets), followed by a Q&A with Falbaum and the cast and crew.
