Dinner and a Movie: PULP FICTION
We love Pulp Fiction so much at Robinson Film Center that we named our Abby Singer’s Bistro signature burger the Royale with Cheese after a conversation that Vincent and Jules have. Chef Tootie Morrison is venturing away from the Royale today to another burger from the movie – the Big Kahuna Burger. Trust us, it’s so good, we may have to add it to our menu. As Samuel L. Jackson’s Jules says in the movie, “Mmmmm. This is a tasty burger.” We’re pairing our tasty burger with mixologist Allison Hollis’ take on the $5 shake from Jack Rabbit Slim’s that Vincent and Mia drink before their famous dance scene – except ours is boozy. You’re welcome for that.

The Big Kahuna Burger
This is a grilled burger, so outside you go!
Essential item — grill or smoker
Start a fire with charcoal. The charcoal is ready to cook when the charcoal have turned white.
Burger Ingredients
4 Hamburger buns
4 Hamburger patties (4-6oz fresh or frozen beef or turkey)
4 whole pineapple rings (fresh or canned)
1 can spam or luncheon meat (cut 4 slices to desired thickness)
2 medium tomatoes
1 romaine heart
1 medium white onion (cut into 4 slices)
Miracle Whip (enough to spread on all 4 burger buns)
Tootie’s Teriyaki Saunce Ingredients
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup molasses
2 tablespoons sugar
1 cup lemonade or juice from canned pineapple
2 tablespoons fresh grated ginger
1/2 cup pineapple cut into chunks
juice of 1 lime
2 tablespoons butter
Cooking Steps
Mix all ingredients for Tootie’s Teriyaki Sauce in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until slightly thickened, about 10 minutes.
Season patties lightly with salt and pepper.
Grill patties, luncheon loaf slices, onion and pineapple until meat releases clear juices and the fruit and onion are tender. Remove from grill. Toast burger buns on grill.
Assemble burgers on bun with Miracle Whip, two tomato slices, chopped lettuce, one slice of onion, one slice of luncheon loaf and one ring of pineapple. Drizzle with teriyaki sauce and cooked pineapple. Serve with garlic parmesan french fries*
*For parmesan fries, sprinkle french fries with minced garlic or garlic powder, salt and parmesan cheese.
